Redux

The present is bleak.
I spy the cryptic message,
then climb the ladder.
Could it really be for me,
this better future I see?

    I saw a broad sign, painted by His handthe words, I did not understandI thought why? Put another brick in the wallascending the crooked ladder, too afraid to fallthere I stood alone, and staredabove the galaxy’s glaremy retinas were burninglast night’s moon had fallenbeyond the broad blue dawnand my neighbour wasn’t mowing his lawnI then saw in our narrowing crevassethe universe, in a blade of grass
