On 2 July 1942, most of the children of Lidice, a small village in what was then Czechoslovakia, were handed over to the Łódź Gestapo office. 81 of the children were transported to the extermination camp at Chełmno 70 kilometers away. There they were gassed to death. This remarkable sculpture of 82 children by Marie Uchytilová commemorates those children attacked from Lidice who died.
disgusting barbarians
bred from power
they were evil tyrants
sacrificing the innocent
the vulnerable
for personal gain
they chose cruelty
and still slept well
while all the rest suffered
how inhumane they were
how so many still are
shameful
Lidice Shall Live…thanks to the miners of Stoke, England.

This made me so sad and tearful!! Wonderfully penned! I have such a terrible time reading and seeing the truth about such cruelty and evil! These things give me a mental justification for Hell!

This is one of the reasons I don’t believe Hell is a destination, we are already here. It is hard to see it or read about it but it’s a necessary evil (so to speak) so it reminds us not to ever have something like that happen again!

Shameful? Despotism knows no shame. Shameful is letting despotism go unchallenged.
Thank you for this post.

This sculpture is so heartbreakingly beautiful! Your poem is dead on but personally I think calling them shameful was too polite! Great awareness and writing Susi, thank you for sharing this! <3

Art will do that to a person! I was equally drawn to it as well as inspired to add my two cents. I would probably use stronger expletives had I had the opportunity to meet those monsters who instigated these acts. Thanks for your kindness, Deborah! <3

Yes, it was. Sadly, cruelty has gone on since the beginning of history and still does. :(
