dementia is a robber
it takes away, in bits and pieces
the life not only imagined
but the existence sculpted by the body’s owner
memories slowly fall away
sadly, loved ones become shadows in their fragile minds
and no more explanations about existing are forthcoming
with frustration they move forward to their end

I just went through this with my husband. Good explanation of events.

This is so heartbreaking, Susi. Beautifully expressed. Is it incurable?

Appreciate your comment, Indira. That is my understanding. Symptoms can be managed, but it is irreversible.

Ultimately, we are what our brain or other organs are. The spiritual existence is not palpable, and does not contribute to physical and mental well-being.

It is a cruel condition, often forgotten because it isn’t natural visible.

Yes, especially initially. We all blame normal aging for the inevitable short term memory loss, and don’t always realize it’s leading somewhere much worse. Thanks for reading and commenting, Diana!
