Rituals

The flicker of the candles in the circle shone brightly. Children born during the full moon would have the other women curl around each other, chanting, then split up and back to the other, calling forth the wisest female spirit with sacred words to protect the new children. This ritual wasn’t for the faint of heart, though, as evidenced by the amount of bloodshed when the tip of the spear pierced just below the collarbone. It wasn’t a game for the women; they believed it was the key to their survival and continuation, regardless of the scar they would carry.
