Backstage

Robert stared at the drag performers from the stool his papa sat him on. So many men behind the frame of the mirrors lined-up, overly exaggerated makeup dabbed on, and their constant chattering before the show amused him. Robert wondered if the makeup would cover his scaldedcruel-looking, scarred cheek.

One of the performers pirouetted before him, the hem slapping his face and tattered skin. He saw flecks of color as he squinted to save his eyes from the ambush, but he was trapped. He would have skittered away if he could, but his papa told him not to move.

    1. For some reason the backstage scene from Torch Song Trilogy came into my mind as I was reading the words. Yes, it would be great to be a fly on that wall. Fun times, I say! ;) Glad you liked it, Belladonna!
