this heavy heart
of tightly cemented blocks
patch the hole you left
but why do i still
give you the power
over my existence
when i long to be set free
like “he loves me not”
plucked petals
this heavy heart
of tightly cemented blocks
patch the hole you left
but why do i still
give you the power
over my existence
when i long to be set free
like “he loves me not”
plucked petals
Lovely Susie

Well written. Yes, it is we who give others a power over us. We have the choice, to give or not to give.

A tall order to heal a broken heart. But it can be done! 🙂

This is really a good and thought provoking poem! It is the age old question – “But why do i still/give you the power/over my existence” and I wish I could provide an answer to some of my friends….

Thank you, Val! Definitely a difficult situation to be in but I think with anything, when the burden and pain outweighs any relief or satisfaction, changes generally follow.

Beautiful piece. It’s brevity is also what makes it powerful.

In later years, the absurdity of believing in ‘plucked petals’, or the ‘One for sorrow, two for joy’ strikes. At that time, it has such a insane hold on a nubile mind.
