Freedom From The Past

“Dead family walking!”

The family was chaotic from day one.

They being an absentee, alcoholic father, and a probably-suffering-from-a-mental-illness mother not understanding love.

A child being cheated out of something before her existence had ever really begun.

So many unusual life lessons played out where mediocrity would flourish.

Determined small steps tested the authorities; she tried where she could.

Her willingness to rise above engaged with her persistently in the aftermath of their lives.

She took control of all in her realm, determined to do what was best.

The past is now safely in the rear-view mirror.

Today promised ever-increasing clarity going forward.

**Forgive me, Reena. This wasn’t written today, but your prompt reminded me of this piece I wrote back in 2018. With today being Thanksgiving and your challenge speaking to thankfulness in a unique situation, this poem seemed to fit the request. It reminds me to be grateful precisely for that which tried to hold me down or keep me from success.

We Did It!

steadily churning
set-backs never held us down
the end goal achieved

Sedulous

always diligent
who shall do all that’s required
whatever it takes

I See The Future

Inspired by What do you see #266

hungering to learn
gains a foundation of knowledge
breeds person’s success

Should Dreams Come True

there will be evidence
when you willingly, boldly and decisively
imprint hard work and determination
on your anatomy
immersing yourself whole-heartedly
in this thing called full-on participation in life

but be aware

your psyche may be littered with scars
from the constant battering of little or no results
all the efforts gone unnoticed
or even mocked mercilessly
by others who are too afraid to succeed
it’s not easy when you feel defeated

be happy when you get your rewards

if lady luck reigned on your parade
and watched you attain “the good life”
reaping all that you’ve needed and wanted
observing you enjoying living full-tilt
remember to be grateful for your success
raise a glass to yourself as well

and be generous to others

**Quote from Cruel Compassion, Collaboration with the Silent One by Ink Empress

focusedwhilst searching for my sanity,
i’ve become my own worst enemy

the what ifs
the how comes
the why, why, why me
get in the way of true lucidness

put everything aside
hit the ground humbly
start with small steps
making gains slowly

understand that progress comes in tiny snippets
confidence builds block by block
assurances from all around guide us
as we leave our dark pit behind

concentrate on the right things
and you’ll go farther than you ever imagined

Cognoscente

it all begins with curiosity
the acquisition of knowledge
spurring on an insatiable passion
the goal to be the connoisseur
of your ardent and fervent pursuit
as your greatness shines
your accomplishments
herald your arrival
at the door of success

Paying It Forward

i’m
always
excited
to be a part
of the triumph which occurs around me
the success of others inspires me
chance to attain
my desires
rising
joy

Behold

with optimism and feral determination
life needs to fear me
the sun may set
but i’m coming up
hitting all the right marks
willing to do what it takes
success is the end result

i am all powerful
