Progress/Schmogress

Forward or back?

One could argue going back is not a bad thing, although most would say forward is the only way. That’s progress.

Forward = Progress, Backwards = Failure

Is it really, though?

Some things might be better with progress, but it would seem to also create more to solve or resolve. Don’t you think?

We forget that some things, not all things, were actually easier just to feel content with. It didn’t require advancement. It was an acceptance of something good and held some ease for us because it was ingrained in us. That isn’t always a bad thing.

As much as I love progress and doing things better (and I really do!),  I’ve also found that development introduces a new level of “work” that has to be incorporated. It actually means adjusting in a way to what is easier but then requires more effort to be “aware.” It fills your mind to the point where you’re at a maximum state of involvement. Is that really progress? For me, it just means another challenge to balance.

It’s like we are more engaged in a way but not meaningfully. So I feel like simplification is distancing us from meaning. How then is this progress a good thing?

I, for one, would like to remain genuinely invested in this world.

What about you – how do you feel about progress?

Getting On

Untit1111led

The more we live
the more we hurt
first wound aching
underneath all the others
fresh one opening
creating a new tear
on the multitudes existing

Layers of lessons
waiting for a new danger
scars prickling in response
to a red flag waving
our nerves insisting on caution
our bowels all a jumble
preparing to hesitate

Safety beckons
but life still calls
ripe for a new adventure
pushing the previous pain down
putting flesh-colored bandaids
on the wounds
knowing the risks could be worth it

hoping for pain-free days

Necessary Momentum

we don’t want a mixing up of things
a hard no to adding ripples
on our human pond
harshly rejecting this thing called change

but we recognize the inevitable death
of our boring routine
that which
provides us some sanity

life is so cushy when it’s calm
but only moments
where no connection exists
to things which make us dare to live

a disturbance in our equilibrium
can change us for the better
if we let it
if we learn from it

Hidden Talents

The best of you is waiting for your decision.
Offer it for public consumption
or stifle it to appease fear?

What are you saving your best for?
Is there a prize for coming in last?
Is defeat gonna be your trademark?

Let you shine!
Tell yourself fear is the hint that your offering needs an audience.
Embrace the challenge!

Throw yourself up against life and stick the landing!
Hold on for the applause,
and keep riding till you can’t ride no more.
