Men Of The Corn

It felt like we’d gone through the depths of hell carrying out this quest, our faithful crow flying alongside us. Sadly, we had to throw out most of our possessions. The loss stung a bit. I pushed back the wispy hair from my face pulling together the sheet, once holding everything together. The corn stalks protected us. I cautioned the elder accompanying me to be careful of the thistle plants dotting the field. Soon we’d reach the mountain’s crest, judging by the sun in the sky. But then, a violent tremor caught us off guard, throwing us to the ground.
