Inspired by Sadje’s What do you see #120
items on lists are meant to be checked off
yet life has its own agenda
our youth is filled with dreams
while reality wants to bend us into conformity
experience taught us to balance
as best as we could
so now…
our wants exceed the time we have left
and our needs take precedence as we age
Great poem, all very true. KL ❤

My thoughts entirely. Too much to do, too little time in which to do it so now’s the time to get our priorities right!

This was quite an snappy, interesting spin on the prompt, Susi.

Wise words. All we need is a balance between our wants and needs, true.

Thank you! And also, that sometimes our needs are more important than our wants.

I worked for a veterinarian who had a 40th birthday and went into a little depression – he said that he had thought that he’d have accomplished more by the time he was 40… Yet he was very successful, had a prestigious job, a wonderful wife, 2 very smart and successful daughters, and he felt life had passed him by… it boggles my mind.

Maybe he had different desires than those accomplishments? But I can understand, my 40s sucked because I felt that it was half over.
